Brief: Ha Giang Loop 4- Day Off-road Tour
Day 0: Transfer from Hanoi to Ha Giang
You will be picked up by a night sleeper bus between 7:30 PM – 8:00 PM, departing from Hanoi and arriving in Ha Giang around 2:00 – 3:00 AM the next morning.
If you prefer a daytime bus, please let us know in advance and we’ll arrange it for you.
Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed at our hostel in Ha Giang. A free dorm bed will be provided for you to rest until 8:00 AM, when the tour begins.
If you prefer more privacy, you can upgrade to a private room for an additional $25 for the arrival night.
Day 1: Ha Giang City – Yen Minh Town
- Bac Sum Pass – The first challenge of Ha Giang’s winding roads.

Detailed Itinerary – Ha Giang Loop Off-Road 4 Day 2 Night Tour
This 4-day off-road tour is crafted for true adventure enthusiasts—those who have solid motorbike skills and seek a more thrilling, hands-on experience of the Ha Giang Loop. Unlike the classic tours with easy riders, you’ll be behind the handlebars 100% of the time. Expect to navigate dirt trails, steep mountain passes, and remote valleys as you journey through hidden routes in the Dong Van Karst Plateau, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
With the 4-day off-road tour, you’ll experience the full Ha Giang Loop in its entirety, with even more off-road sections added for deeper adventure. This tour is ideal for travelers who have plenty of time for Vietnam and are looking for the ultimate Ha Giang experience. You'll not only cover all the must-see destinations of the loop but also venture into more remote trails, giving you a richer, more complete off-road journey through the breathtaking landscapes of northern Vietnam.
Day 1: Ha Giang City – Quan Ba – Yen Minh
After breakfast at 8:00 AM, your guide will brief you on the itinerary and safety procedures. You’ll prepare your gear and secure your belongings to the bikes. Large luggage can be stored at our hostel while you carry only essentials for the tour.
The tour departs at 9:00 AM. After 30 minutes of riding, our first major stop will be Bac Sum Pass, located 800m above sea level. From the top, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the winding road you just rode through, surrounded by lush mountains, terraced rice fields, and traditional local houses.
Crossing Bac Sum Pass, we continue towards Quan Ba Heaven Gate, standing at 1,500m above sea level. Here, you can breathe in the crisp mountain air while admiring endless mountain ridges, vast rice fields, and colorful flower valleys (depending on the season).
Our journey proceeds to Quan Ba Twin Mountains, where you'll be able to take in the scenic beauty of Tam Son town. Next, we visit Nam Dam Village, home to the Dao ethnic group, famous for their traditional clay houses. After exploring the village, we return to Tam Son town for a delicious local lunch.
In the afternoon, we visit Lung Tam Handicraft Village, where you can witness Hmong women crafting handmade hemp textiles—a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations.
From there, we continue our ride towards Yen Minh. Upon reaching the pine forest area, your tour guide will lead you onto an off-road section where you'll ride through the forest on dirt trails and across fields, passing through local villages.
You will arrive at the homestay around 5:00 PM. Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM, featuring a typical Vietnamese family-style meal.
Day 2: Yen Minh – Lung Cu – Dong Van
After breakfast at 8:00 AM, Crossing the Yen Minh town, we’ll climb towards Tham Ma Slope, but first, enjoy a 5km off-road ride through Van Chai, surrounded by rocky limestone terrain and cornfields then get a rest at a scenic stop, a viewpoint looking down to famous zigzag Tham Ma Slope.
Crossing Tham Ma Pass, we continue towards Pho Cao, where you will stop at a viewpoint overlooking a valley often referred to as "Vietnam’s Little Switzerland."
Next, we visit the Hmong King’s Palace (Vuong Mansion), an architectural masterpiece that once belonged to Vuong Chinh Duc, the ruler of the Hmong people in the region long ago. Here, you’ll gain insights into Hmong history and culture during the French colonial era.
Following the winding road north, we stop for lunch in Lung Cu, before heading to Lung Cu Flagpole, the northernmost point of Vietnam. Standing beneath the Vietnamese national flag, you can admire a vast landscape of terraced fields and traditional villages, marking the frontier between Vietnam and China.
As the day winds down, we take a borderline route towards Dong Van, offering some of the most breathtaking landscapes of the entire journey. This road takes you through white limestone cliffs, towering mountain ridges, and the Nho Que River flowing deep below the valleys.
We arrive in Dong Van town around 5:00 PM. After dinner at 7:00 PM, you can take a leisurely stroll through Dong Van Old Quarter, immersing yourself in the charming nightlife of this historic town.
Day 3: Dong Van – Meo Vac – Du Gia
After breakfast at 8:00 AM, we head to Deo Gio, a viewpoint overlooking the Vietnam–China border. Next, you’ll descend to the Nho Que River, then follow a narrow off-road trail into Ta Lang, a traditional Giay ethnic village.
After exploring Ta Lang, you’ll ride up to Ma Pi Leng Pass, the most iconic road of Ha Giang. This 20-kilometer pass offers jaw-dropping views of the turquoise Nho Que River and the dramatic Tu San Canyon. Numerous viewpoints along the pass allow for plenty of photo opportunities.
Continuing on the M-shaped Road, a winding path connecting Meo Vac to Yen Minh, you’ll ride to Mau Due for lunch. Before reaching lunch place, another off-road segment awaits—passing through a remote Hmong village.
After lunch in Mau Due, we’ll venture into Ngoc Long commune and navigate a trail around a Dao village. A steep concrete path leads us up the mountain, where stunning panoramic views of rice terraces and distant ridgelines await.
We’ll take a coffee break at a local café in Lung Ho, a perfect photo spot.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Du Gia Village, home to the Tay ethnic group. After checking in at your traditional stilt house homestay, enjoy a refreshing swim at Du Gia Waterfall. Then return for a hearty dinner and karaoke fun in the evening.
Day 4: Du Gia – Ha Giang City
On the final day of the tour, the group will ride through Duong Thuong, a vast and scenic valley where a Hmong village stretches along both sides of the road. The valley is lined with expansive cornfields, and it's common to see locals working on their land, offering a glimpse into the daily life of the region’s ethnic communities.
After passing through Duong Thuong, you’ll continue along Thai An Road, a winding mountain road that follows the steep cliffs of Du Gia National Park. This stretch of road takes you through pristine forests, deep gorges, and offers breathtaking views of the Miện River flowing below. Along the way, we’ll stop at several scenic viewpoints, including Thai An Pass, a panoramic lookout over the Miện River, and A Boong Waterfall, a hidden gem perfect for a quick rest and photos.
Finally, you’ll return to Ha Giang City, where we’ll enjoy a final lunch together before concluding the trip.
